Mariah is utterly confused. Her emotions are conflicted; perhaps she is getting mixed messages. A normal person would be able to move on, knowing that a former sig. other has been with someone else. Could it be that she is lead to believe that her future may still include him? She is hurting, and she thinks that going back to her man will make the pain go away. Spy, spy, spy. Oh if you only knew the things that I know.

Let's try something here. I was listening to Mariah Carey's Emancipation of Mimi and I was paying attention to the lyrics. I was struck not by the content of her lyrics, but more by the realization that she has been through a lot in her love life to be singing about such hardships - confusion, longing, acceptance, hurt, anxiety, maybe betrayal. Who ever knew such a basketcase had so much depth? (Maybe she's such a basketcase because of said hardships).

Ironically, I can use her lyrics through a time-line for myself. If you hate reading lyrics, I would suggest that you listen to the song as you read. Take a chance to really read the words, maybe you can identify with them as well.
