The White Stuff.

Finally, it's winter. It ain't winter without snow. Global Warming decided to play with our minds again. I say, if it's going to be cold, let it snow, let it snow. Amen. I can't wait to have a snowball fight. I've been bottling up my aggression for too long hahaha. Oh man, I remember years ago when I gave Alex a nosebleed once because I accidentally hit him in the face with a snowball. Maybe I'll do something a little more low-key, like ice skating or tobogganing instead. I also remember tobogganing with Alex and Melissa at Reservoir Park when I was 11. We were on one of those long wooden sleds that has a curve at the front-end so we lined ourselves up in a single file on the toboggan. Someone pushed us down the hill and we flew straight into a tree at the bottom of the hill. I was in the front and I put my arms out to stop myself from going flying - and then Alex was sitting behind me and knocked the back of my head with his forehead. Hehe. I can't believe we didn't hurt ourselves. Ahhhh, those were the days. Can't wait for my exam to finish so I can playyyyyyy.

Study harder damnit...

I don't have much time to write, so I'll throw out some random things. I have been taking a lot of pics lately but I haven't had the time to post them. Here's a pic from MedGames in Montreal of Alex copping a feel. I think he was really excited because we were just across the street from the strip clubs - you can seen the neon lights reflecting off the glass.
I love this quote, and I think that they are good words to live by.

"Just so you know, judging from my little experience, I kind of believe in fate. It just works in really fucked up ways sometimes."
~Denise, Can't Hardly Wait.

I learned some new terminology yesterday: feenin' = jonesin' = craving

More holiday stuff.

So I use most opportunities with my parents to learn more about our family history and about how things were when I was growing up. My dad ended up drawing this family tree, which just blows my mind to think that my extended family is so huge, but my immediate family is small. I won't get into explaining it too much, but my paternal grandfather had 2 wives. I never met him, but I think it would have been wild. He passed away the year that I was born. So as a result, I have many uncles and aunts, and half-uncles and aunts. And we have a documented family tree that goes generations and generations back. It's amazing.

One of my "projects" over the break was to make a bodice form. A body manequin that assists you in making garments. I wanted to make one rather than buy one so I can tailor it to my own body. And it's also easier to make adjustments when you're working on something as opposed to working on myself. At first I tried to paper mache it onto myself. I wanted to remove it when it was dry, but I couldn't wait because after a while, it was hard to breathe! When I took it off my body, the whole thing collapsed. Prototype #2 worked out much better. I used tinfoil to create the template (I also cannot breathe in the photo), and then paper mache-ed that. I think it turned out pretty well. And now I don't have to buy a bodice form, and I think it will help me to sew.

A unique function of boobies.

Not enough brain capacity to say much so I'll fill it with pictures. I spent some time during the break looking for a neck massager since Mr. John my massage therapist can only do so much. Usually when I go for a massage my neck doesn't hurt at the time - my insurance just happens to pay for it so I take advantage. We have an old school massage machine at home which we (my family) call "the booby massager" because it has two humps between which your neck sits as you lie down. The humps rotate around, and the massager looks pretty funny, but it feels oh so good. I couldn't for the longest time find the massager, so I requested it for Christmas from my sister and sent her this drawing of it over MSN:
We ended up finding a weird massager at Pac Mall, which kinda has 50 humps on it. It looks really strange, but it'll do the job since there ain't no man massaging my neck these days. Incidentally, the old booby massager was found a day after I bought the new one. It was in my closet the whole time. Kind of stupid of me, but at least I have a massager in both TO and London.

It doesn't get more random than this.

I am so ecstatic that my computer works. If I had lost all of my pictures I think I might have been devastated. I have learned a great lesson - when you think about backing up your files, do it immediately.

I love going home because it's like a little treasure hunt. Whenever I go back, there are so many new things lying around to discover.

Everyone needs a confidante. If you don't have one, get one. It really helps to be able to talk to someone about everything. But make sure that he/she is able to give good advice. Thank goodness I found one.

A vacation at the end of my vacation.

I joined facebook last week. I think that it was founded in the US, but it's now a crazy (mostly North American) phenomenon. It's insane who you can find on facebook. We're talking long lost people from high school. When I get the chance to figure out how to use facebook, I'll start looking for more long lost friends from elementary school. I think it's way better than friendster...but mostly b/c a lot of people haven't heard of friendster.

Off to Montreal for a few days for Medgames. The T-dot is going to kick some ass in sports...but we probably can't brag too much b/c most people will be hung-over after late night partying. Oh well, I'll take what I can get!

I'm hoping that it's really fun.....

Why sometimes the truth is too harsh to hear.

There are reasons why sometimes it's ok to just not tell the truth...

Family quotes:
1. "Your wallet looks like duck poo." -- Mom. Describing the colour of the wallet that my sister gave to me for Christmas. I swear my wallet makes a quack sound every time I open it now.

2. "I didn't really, really, really want these." --Sister. Her reaction to opening the gift that I got her. I spent $93 on LuLu Lemon yoga pants despite really hating them. Supposedly they make your butt look nice.

3. "Why are you cold? You said so yourself that you're a fatso." --Mom. In complete disbelief that my blubber doesn't keep me warm. It's the low-fat kind.

Obligations.

London, London, how you have changed. Stores are popping up left and right in Westmount. I told my mom that we almost never have to leave our subdivision now. Basically you can find just about everything within a 5 km radius of our home. Sure it is convenient, but London has too many duplicate stores...I'm going to call it clonesville soon. I am not sure if I can fully blame it on London though. Perhaps I have changed as well. It's also weird seeing the Sundance across the road now.

I've been home for over a week now. Things haven't quite gone as I had planned it. I didn't take into account the numerous things (chores) that I'd have to do around the home. And I don't even live here anymore. I suppose it is the filial thing to do. But I will qualify that by saying that my family is way more anal about house chores than most. I should probably know by now that when I come home there is a honeymoon period. It usually lasts for about 3 days. During this time I can basically do whatever I want, whenever I want. I managed to knit a pair of mittens for Natasha for Christmas, watched some movies, and opened presents. Everything was peachy.
After this time, the impending New Year's Eve Party usually causes my dad to get into clean-up/panic mode and it's on, oh is it ever on. I think I had to drop everything that I planned to do for the next 3 or 4 days to clean the house, which I no longer live in by the way. I also ended up cleaning things in the house that were completely unrelated to the party itself. My theory is that my dad takes advantage of when I am home because he knows that I will help him. Although I don't mind helping out, sometimes I feel like it goes at a snail pace, but when I am doing chores, I prefer to do them quickly. You know, less time, less pain. Anyhow, I guess what I am trying to say is, that when I'm home, my business is everyone's business. It's hard to be an individual when you come home. And although I really like to spend time with my family (and I think I'm doing a better job at it as I have done in the past), my breaks are so few and far between, that I'd like to just catch up with myself as well.

OK, well, so I don't sound like I have been bitching this whole holiday, I think that I was successful at getting updates on most people from high school. I saw HT at a birthday party and I got a few updates from her standpoint. It looks like moving away to Ottawa wasn't the best idea. A few more classmates have gone on to get married and have kids. Then it was the wedding NY Eve party. The party to end all parties. It didn't quite live up to my expectations - it was maybe half of what I thought it would be. Maybe the average age at the party was a bit too high...Anyhoo, I got my hair curled by Susan, and was picked up by Mez. We headed to the Berkshire Club and I saw a lot of faces I hadn't seen in a while. To my surprise, our bartender was none other than Heavy, who has been skinny for a while now and has kept it off. Saw Masse's old boys, up to their usual antics - getting drunk and kissing girls. Most of Jenn's girls were with husband. Then there were the random groups of people that I didn't know. I heard a couple of times that my dress looked like the bridesmaids' dresses, ooops. But I had a fun time dressing up. Thank goodness that Russ was there. We weren't good friends in high school, but we talked and the bonus part was that he was sober and had some intelligent things to say. Why weren't we friends in high school? I think he graduated too early. CM brought her high school teacher boyfriend. I guess that sentence didn't sound so odd, but actually, he taught her in high school and now they are dating. OK that doesn't sound so weird either...he's 40-something. OK, that's better. Anyway, there was enough awkwardness to go around, esp. since many of his students were at this party. I never knew him personally, so I had a "whatever, as long as she's happy" attitude about it. I think the night was anti-climatic, and a little bit bizarre. But still worth it to go. Unfortunately I feel pretty disjointed with my high school friends. I'm wondering if I was really good friends with some of them to begin with. It's a little bit sad, and unexpectedly I am missing my meds friends a lot.

Catching up with some people has made me think more about relationships in general. Some are meant to run their course. You know, there's a time and a place for someone in your life. They play a role, and when it's over, you should be able to comfortably part ways. Others, when a reunion occurs, it's pretty refreshing to talk again and hear what is going on with their lives. Dude. Life is so complicated.

I leave you with this quote:
"All this talk about engagements and weddings, all I can think is DUCK." -- Curtis Stone (Take Home Chef)
